I arrived early, 6 am for the big "mid-term" election on Tuesday with excitement. As we opened the machines and when through the process to ensure that the integrity of the machines were maintained I noticed a line forming outside. The polls would open at 7 am sharp and not a minute sooner.
By 6:45 am there were 70 "WHITE WASP", impeccably dressed angry males waiting to vote. The men were all very serious and anxious to get this done so they could get off to their jobs. I could only imagine them watching FOX getting their marching orders to show up early to the polls to spank the Democrats this time. Not one of the men smiled as they walked up to sign the book; astounding!
I knew we were in trouble as soon as the doors opened! If any of the Democrats have learned anything, the Republicans know how to stick together, maintain order, stay on message. They never criticize one another; they are loyal soldiers who take their marching orders seriously.
Blue Dog Democrats have now been punished and will continue to be punished for listening the the Republican threats; they all (for the most part) lost. Democrats, take heed to this, learn from your mistakes. STICK TOGETHER! I can just picture the Republicans in a smokey room with John, King of the Oompa Loompas", Boehner at the head of the table with corporate big wigs from the oil and gas companies conspiring on how to maniupulate the election and it worked. The Blue Dogs played right into their hands...
I woke up the next morning feeling as if Bush had been re-elected...that sinking feeling came over me. Then, that reminded me, we now have a common enemy again. This is what it takes for the Dems to get motivated; a common enemy; a force to fight against. We have time. The Republicans can't do it alone; they are stuck with us. Boehner may be enjoying his rise to Speaker but his big orange head will be deflated after he discovers that he truly has NO POWER at all. The Senate and the President are still in charge.
Republicans can gloat for now; it's what they do best. Wise up Dems, it's time to begins strategizing against this monster...time to fall in line and stick together; it's our only option!

The RWNJ Attack on Islam and Muslims
I have come to the conclusion that the RWNJ's are creating yet another narrative to maintain fear and loathing of another culture in order to maintain "order" within their ranks. There is nothing more powerful than the uniting of a group with a common "Hatred" and "Fear" to influence their decisions.
The "Group think" is nothing new; remember how Hitler was able to unite people against the Jews because they were different and sub-human. These followers will be lead down the path and fall in line with their leader to maintain order because they feel threatened. I hate invoking the "Hitler" bomb but how else will people understand the sincere threat that exists when people blindly follow? I would like to think that we have evolved but there are still those among us who have not. These people perpetuate hatred (FOX) through propoganda and they have the money to do it!
I received yet another diatribe email from my "friend" that lists all of the Muslim threat and what could happen if they "take'over" our country (readling through the crap)...I am sick and saddened by the intolerance but I am reminded every day that there are people who are not like me who live in fear of anyone who is different from them. They read blogs, etc. that develop their paranoia further and my greatest fear is that it's spreading like a Cancer and it needs to be cut out!

NYC Mosque
After receiving numerous emails from friends arguing both sides to this issue I felt compelled to address it. I sent a friend an article from The Daily Beast regarding the proposed Mosque:

innocuous: a PayPal account with less than $9,000 in it, mostly from New
Yorkers, raised by a group of Muslim moms in Manhattan whose original aim was to
host a peace march.
After this "friend" had sent me information that the Muslims were trying to take over the US. Her response to my email is what lit me up:
"Not sure why you are sending me this. To convince me its okay or the opposite.
They are only starting to raise the money, that is why the Imam is in the middle
east right now. Getting money from the Saudis and the Iranians. (Yes Iran) If
you think you'll be able to track where it comes from you are mistaken. You will
know what they want you to know. Blogs are not news articles; they are opinion.
There are three more mosque's planned in TN. Not just mosque's but compounds.
Its not just a worship building in TN.
This is dangerous for America and you cannot convince me otherwise if that is
what you are trying to do. I have done my research and listened to the facts.
Its not about religion; unlike how America is slowly separating church from
state; Islam religion and politics are one in the same. This country is headed
for dangerous drastic change; how soon? 5, 10 years??? We will lose our freedom
if this is permitted. Google, murfreesboro TN.
They do not respect the foundation on what this country is built on and will use
our freedoms against us. See how much equality there is when we are the
minority. Look at the state of the country they are coming from, see their
actions, not just their words. See their unwillingness to listen to the people
who had family members die on 9/11; not to mention the mosque will open on
9/11/11; that alone speaks voumes. I have seen footage of the inside of mosques
from other countries; 9K couldn't buy a lightswitch; millions of dollars will go
into this mosque.
The mosque in TN - one of the board members had jihad terrorist information on
his facebook page; once brought to light, it was removed. Do you think he's
stopped recruiting? Honestly, this could be a dire mistake for america. People
are so fixated on being politically correct and non-discriminatory that they are
not seeing the big picture.
Don't be naive; read all you can from independent sources; people who have had
dealings with Islam; teachers, rabbi's, historians, the clergy. They are the
ones that know what they are about. Their MO is to conquer (WTC, NY) and build a
worship building on the desecrated site...kind of like dancing on someones grave
Mohammed style.
Personally, it is unfathomable that any American can find this acceptable ....

It took every ounce of my being not to respond with some witty quip (I received input from friends with cooler heads)...and I chose not to correct her obvious mispellings! It's interesting the conspiracy theory that she has chosen to pass along....(she has been programmed well by the right-wing nut jobs who have their talking points that is used to be sprinkled around like a virus....herpes-like!) I have heard plenty of arguments regarding 9/11 and Ground Zero but this one took the cake.
Freedom of religion and Freedom of Speech are basic rights of every American and yet they are being challenged with this issue. The Mosque is 2 blocks from the WTC site so it's not on "hollowed ground" like everyone seems to want to believe. If these people want to be angry with anyone, try the folks who sold them the property...The folks that purchased the propety have every right to buy and build like anyone else does; as long as they follow the rules and abide them while building.
This is a disgrace! Not every Muslim is a terrorist; just like not every priest is a pedophile. Our country was established by people who came here for religious freedom; have these people forgotten this? Selective hearing? We can't just pick and choose the laws of the land but yet the GOP would like to do just that.
I guess I like to stand by our Constitution and I refuse to engage in an argument that the other side won't even listen to. This would waste of my breath and my time. Enough is enough!

Far from a fundraising juggernaut with ties to Ahmadinejad, the planned
Islamic center near ground zero has less than $9,000 in the bank—raised by a
group of Muslim-American moms. Asra Q. Nomani reports.
In recent days, critics of the proposal to build a mosque and Islamic center
near ground zero have linked the plan to everyone from Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad to Islamist organizations Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. But the
plan's real fundraising effort, thus far, is much more
innocuous: a PayPal account with less than $9,000 in it, mostly from New
Yorkers, raised by a group of Muslim moms in Manhattan whose original aim was to
host a peace march.
After this "friend" had sent me information that the Muslims were trying to take over the US. Her response to my email is what lit me up:
"Not sure why you are sending me this. To convince me its okay or the opposite.
They are only starting to raise the money, that is why the Imam is in the middle
east right now. Getting money from the Saudis and the Iranians. (Yes Iran) If
you think you'll be able to track where it comes from you are mistaken. You will
know what they want you to know. Blogs are not news articles; they are opinion.
There are three more mosque's planned in TN. Not just mosque's but compounds.
Its not just a worship building in TN.
This is dangerous for America and you cannot convince me otherwise if that is
what you are trying to do. I have done my research and listened to the facts.
Its not about religion; unlike how America is slowly separating church from
state; Islam religion and politics are one in the same. This country is headed
for dangerous drastic change; how soon? 5, 10 years??? We will lose our freedom
if this is permitted. Google, murfreesboro TN.
They do not respect the foundation on what this country is built on and will use
our freedoms against us. See how much equality there is when we are the
minority. Look at the state of the country they are coming from, see their
actions, not just their words. See their unwillingness to listen to the people
who had family members die on 9/11; not to mention the mosque will open on
9/11/11; that alone speaks voumes. I have seen footage of the inside of mosques
from other countries; 9K couldn't buy a lightswitch; millions of dollars will go
into this mosque.
The mosque in TN - one of the board members had jihad terrorist information on
his facebook page; once brought to light, it was removed. Do you think he's
stopped recruiting? Honestly, this could be a dire mistake for america. People
are so fixated on being politically correct and non-discriminatory that they are
not seeing the big picture.
Don't be naive; read all you can from independent sources; people who have had
dealings with Islam; teachers, rabbi's, historians, the clergy. They are the
ones that know what they are about. Their MO is to conquer (WTC, NY) and build a
worship building on the desecrated site...kind of like dancing on someones grave
Mohammed style.
Personally, it is unfathomable that any American can find this acceptable ....

It took every ounce of my being not to respond with some witty quip (I received input from friends with cooler heads)...and I chose not to correct her obvious mispellings! It's interesting the conspiracy theory that she has chosen to pass along....(she has been programmed well by the right-wing nut jobs who have their talking points that is used to be sprinkled around like a virus....herpes-like!) I have heard plenty of arguments regarding 9/11 and Ground Zero but this one took the cake.

Natural Gas Drilling
On this beautiful Tuesday afternoon in June 2010, I sat with my son to watch 'Gasland' by Josh Fox. It was shocking and compelling! The fact that Josh is from PA piqued our interest in that he is "one of us" and will be affected the same as we will if the Oil and Gas companies are allowed to expand their drilling into Marcellus Shale.
I've been in two meetings prior to seeing this movie where the local Democrats discussed how we should tax the industry to bridge a budget gap. I would say that no amount of money should supercede the health of the people in the state of PA.
Josh did an excellent job of detailing the effects of the hydraulic fracking:

Essentially they inject up to 597 chemical compounds into the earth in order to break up the rocks, etc. to set the gas free. This takes 80,000 pounds of chemicals and 70% of which remains in the ground. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the water used in combination with these chemicals will end up in a basin, tribuatry, lake, stream, river...etc. You get the picture!
Not all of us have the benefit of public water; many of our friends and neighbors have wells from which they draw their drinking, bathing, washing water from. These people are getting sick in records numbers shortly after the drilling commences and the Oil and Gas companies deny the unsafe drinking water exists. They claim to test it but Josh has proven them wrong. Independent lab tests determined that the water is completely unsafe for any living creature to consume.
After filming the people lighting their own water on fire, I believed the Independent lab! There was one chemical that was most compelling that prevented fish from growing gills and people experiencing tissue and brain damage. Animals were losing their hair and were getting sick and dying. Incredibly sad!
How did this all come about? You guessed it, good old Dick Cheney and Halliburton. The bill that passed back in 2005 allowed the Oil and Gas industries to be immune to the EPA laws. They were also permitted to drill on public land. Does anyone remember that? Well, no one has reported on the side effects of that yet.....
Halliburton seems to be doing the bidding of the "Money First" people in this country. From Iraq, to the Gulf, to Natural Gas drilling we are being raped and pillaged. Where's the media on this one? Hmm, well, they dropped the ball once again (just like they did prior to the Iraq invasion). We can't even blame the regulatory bodies in this; this industry was treated like diplomats get treated from other countries...immune from laws and prosecution!
I am just one person, I would love to make a difference in my life time. Anyone want to join me?

The Oil Crisis
As I watched and listened to Rachel Maddow interview Rep. Markey, it hit me that one sentence like a brick in the head. "With complacency comes disaster!" Yes Congressman, it does.
The Regulatory agencies of our Federal government have allowed the big corporations to rape and pillage the American people without so much as a kiss. The Oil industry is only one of many. Yes, they weren't regulated. You might also argue that they were in collusion over their back-up disaster plans. I would love to see Congress investigate and come across and "industry insider" who would be willing to put up the shared document that they all plagiarized from. You know it exists, it's just a matter of who has it or was it "destroyed in the fire?"
One may also argue that there are other industries that deserve a regulatory "look see" like the Financial Industry. Take a look back and you will find a trail of monies contributed to members of Congress to stop the regulations and to repeal those very same laws that were drafted back in the 20's & 30's that stopped this type of disaster from happening. Boy, they really let money cloud their judgement and now we all have to pay for their indiscretions. The "Good 'Ole Boy" network is alive and well. The heart is beating and they still have yet to learn from their mistakes; and Congress is too cowardly to do anything about it!
Then there is the Media. Yes, I saved the best for last! This has been a point for contention for me for years now and it's coming to a head yet again. To those of you who do not have the benefit of watching/reading alternative media (i.e. MSNBC, Blogs, etc.) may not realize the magnitude of the ineptness of our Main Stream Media. They are currently creating the news; not reporting.
Fox News is a prime example. They have become the mouth piece of the Far Right Republican Party and will not only lie, but they will create stories that don't even exist or pull something out of context and say it's "news." The Media used to be regulated and was held to a high standard whereby we could trust that they were being honest with us and that we could walk away and feel more informed. Those days ended when the monopolies formed. Yes, there are monopolies in the Media and no one is calling them out because their bosses are pulling the strings so that this will not come to light.
The People Magazine reporting is pervasive and it's only because people buy it by watching. Nothing is worth watching these days unless it's "titillating" or controversial. The dumbing-down of America is working and our government is partially to blame! FCC needs to get off its butt and do something to change this!
I have always said that "He who controls the media, controls the world" and this has held true. If all you watch is Fox, then you believe that our country is falling to pieces and that Obama is the Anti-Christ who wasn't born here and shouldn't be President. You would also believe that he hasn't done anything in office when nothing could be further from the truth. Obama isn't perfect but at least he's trying (that's more than I can say about his predecessor).
There are so many more issues that I could bring to light here but it's overwhelming at best to think about. The above 3 are my top three issues that I would like to see Congress address. Rachel Maddow was right, we need a new energy policy TODAY; there is no time to waste. With this crisis comes opportunity and it's time for us to step up and change our way of life. If we don't do it now, then we will never recover from the Oil crisis nor the Economic crisis.

12 Steps
After watching the antics of the past week by the GOP, I couldn't help but think of the 12 Steps. The GOP/Teabagger/RWNJ's are all in need of some serious therapy. The main stream media have become enablers and co-dependents for these groups.
The GOP rely on not only Fox for their voice, but also some of the other media outlets. They depend on the likes of Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, et. al. to get their message of hatred and rebellion out. They bring out the worst in the extreme right and they make money from it. Yes, clearly co-dependency.
The media and the GOP leadership have enabled the extreme right nut jobs (the ones who are cutting gas lines, ramming into the backs of cars with Obama bumper stickers, sending fake anthrax in the mail, threatening Senators and Congressmen, carrying guns to rallies, yelling "baby-killer" at a Congressman on the House floor, etc.) by not denouncing and encouraging them to stop. Yes, they have hit a new low and it appears to be going lower. When will it be their "rock bottom?" Will someone have to die before anyone listens and stops?
The likes of Palin and Bachmann are fanning the flames by encouraging their followers to start a revolution and to pick up arms or re-load. No matter how you paint this with your red lipstick, it still stinks and isn't pretty. These women are in love with the attention, there isn't any love for our country. They represent the face of hatred under the veil of beauty. White men who are angry on the far right fall for them because they "appear" to be one of them. The real truth is that they represent the seedy underbelly of the snake whose head has yet to be unveiled.
Step One:
Admit that you are powerless over your emotions and that your lives have become unmanageable.
Step Two:
Come to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. (I am particularly fond of this one being applied)
Step Three
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him (Everyone's God, not just yours)
Step Four
Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves (this one should be quite extensive)
Step Five
Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our WRONGS.
Step Six
Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character (there are a lot)
Step Seven
Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings....
Step Eight
Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and become willing to make amends to them all....
You get the picture.....
The only way to combat this is to shine a light on it, call them out, educate, write, call, etc. Don't sit idle; otherwise you condone the behavior. The media failed us after 9/11 and they are failing us now. It's time to stop the escalation in any way that you can.
The following needs to be kept in mind:
To criticize is a serious business and sometimes an awesome responsibility. before you speak, make sure that your intention is to help with a problem, and not to humiliate, manipulate, or exact revenge.~Civility by Dr. P.M. Forni, Johns Hopkins University

The greed
If anyone is listening the word on Wall Street is still "Greed is Good" and it shows no signs of changing. When will we have an actual champion for the PEOPLE stand up and fight for us? Is this all a game for them? Are they playing with our lives? What happened to real journalism? Sy Hersh is speaking out; how about the rest of you? You guys all know and continue to remain silent.
Jon Stewart is right, you all KNEW what you were doing and now you're expecting all of us to bail you out when we did NOTHING wrong! Where is the justice? Will we ever see it in our life time? Who will be our HERO? Jon, Keith, Rachel....any others? Why does Rupert Murdoch still control the media (and is still growing)? I don't get it. Are we all blind?
I am not a conspiracy theorist but I do believe that there are people of tremendous wealth and power that control this country. Until the people march in the streets and let the government know that we won't take it any more it will continue. Obama is one person; we need to fight for him! He cannot do this alone...SPEAK OUT PLEASE!!!!!
